xgoogle-jumpfly-workshop.jpg.pagespeed.ic.k4Z6MDcTM4April 27, 2015 – Google brought its Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map Workshop to Chicago and invited JumpFly to participate as a trusted Google Partner. This event brought together business owners, partners, and elected officials in order to help local businesses get their information online and on the map. In this workshop, Google experts provided live coaching to help businesses get on the map and introduced JumpFly as a trusted partner that could help them maximize their results.

Google knows that completed local listings generate new customers and is working hard to identify opportunities for businesses to easily and affordably improve their local online exposure. “Small businesses have said that getting online is hard,” said Soo Young Kim, head of marketing for Google’s Get Your Business Online Program (www.gybo.com). By introducing this new program, Google is doing something to try and change that perception.

Google’s website states that, “local businesses are vital to America’s economic future. In fact, small businesses comprise half of the U.S. GDP and create two-thirds of all new jobs. And although nearly all consumers look online for products and services, many small businesses do not have any web presence at all. We believe every small business should be found online and we offer the ability to do this through Google products like Google Maps… Businesses want to be found by their customers. Customers want to find updated information about local businesses. Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map was designed to help strengthen our communities by connecting local businesses and customers so they can easily support each other.”

Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map is specifically aimed at helping small businesses. “Big businesses and big retailers are centrally managing listings to make sure they’re appearing on Google,” Kim said. “Small businesses need to be there – right next to them – when a consumer is searching. We don’t prioritize big retailers before small businesses. Both have the same abilities – to upload photos, listing, hours of operation, get reviews.”

Studies show consumers are looking for more than just basic information when searching online or on maps, but also expect to easily find other information, such as business hours and photos. Four out of five people use search engines to find local information, like business hours and addresses, and research shows that businesses with complete listings are twice as likely (PDF) to be considered reputable by customers. According to research conducted by Google and research company Ipsos MediaCT, consumers are 38 percent more likely to visit and 29 percent more likely to consider purchasing from businesses with complete listings. Yet only 37 percent of businesses (PDF) have claimed a local business listing on a search engine. That’s a lot of missed opportunities for small businesses.

JumpFly Director of Sales, Linda Puchyr, attended the event and met with local businesses who were interested in exploring working with a Google Partner in order to maximize results. “It was great to be introduced to businesses seeking ways to improve their online presence,” says Puchyr. “We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to helping these businesses get on the map. It’s always nice when Google introduces advertisers to JumpFly; the Google Partner Program has been very effective.” Advertisers interested in learning more about this program should visit https://www.gybo.com.
